Councillor Ted Lapkin Headshot

Cr Ted Lapkin was elected as the Councillor for the Brown Hill ward in October 2024 and it is his first time serving on Council.

He has lived in Ballarat for two years and loves the architecture, vibrant cultural and intellectual life along with the informal friendliness of residents. Ballarat is also perfectly located with both Melbourne and the Surf Coast a mere 90 minutes away. Cr Lapkin also enjoys being surrounded by other amazing Gold Rush-era towns and natural attractions in this part of Victoria.

Cr Lapkin’s focus for the 2024-2028 Council term is on restoring public faith in Council by being more responsive to community concerns. He intends to focus on fiscal restraint to enable rate relief for residents and a renewed focus on the fundamental services that are within the realm of local government.

He is a former military officer, political strategist, ministerial advisor, opinion journalist and published novelist.

Cr Lapkin has a Bachelor of History from Tel Aviv University with first class honours and a Masters of Government Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.

His personal interests and hobbies including writing, reading and cycling. Cr Lapkin lives with his wife who is a Ballarat native.
