Cr Samantha McIntosh was elected as the Councillor for the Central ward in October 2024. This is her fifth term on Council having served as a Councillor since 2008, including serving as Deputy Mayor in 2014 and Mayor from 2016 to 2019.
She has lived in Ballarat for 35 years and loves the aviation industry, history, heritage, culture, arts and regional connections. Cr McIntosh’s focus for the 2024-2028 Council term is on completing approved and partly completed council budgeted projects like the animal shelter, the world heritage bid, as well as furthering plans for future growth, road and rail connections and the development of a better waste system, including a municipal recovery facility.
Cr McIntosh has previously been a Board member of the World League of Historic Cities and is a Patron of the George Devine Treloar International Committee. She is also Patron of the Ballarat Paddle Steamer Society and immediate past President of the Ballarat Rotary Club. Cr McIntosh was awarded Emeritus Mayor by the Municipal Association of Victoria and Dame of Honour for Saint John Jerusalem, 2022.
She brings a range of professional experience in hospitality, accommodation and health associated tourism businesses, as well as experience in disability nursing, teaching and hospital-based care. Cr McIntosh has a Masters of Leadership from Deakin University and has completed a basic and advanced course in nutrition and fitness leadership.
Her personal interests and hobbies include art, piano, gardening, and marathon running. Cr McIntosh has four adult children, five grand-children and she has been married since 1987.
