Cr Jay Morrison was elected as the Councillor for the Wendouree ward in October 2024 and it is his first time serving on Council.  

He has lived in Ballarat for seven years and loves Ballarat’s friendly community, country lifestyle, local history, parks, gardens, and access to nature and services make it a wonderful place to live and raise a family.

Cr Morrison’s focus for the 2024-2028 Council term is on the delivery of essential services and infrastructure that the community needs, while protecting what makes our community special. He would like Council to address issues around cost of living, housing affordability and homelessness while also supporting local jobs and businesses. He is passionate about transparent decision making and supporting the most vulnerable in our community.

He has worked in governance organisations for 19 years and currently works for the Community and Public Sector Union managing a team leading their advocacy, campaigning, negotiations and lobbying work.

Cr Morrison is a current board member of BGT Jobs and Training Ballarat and has a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts (Drama).  

In his free time, he volunteers with local community groups, hikes local trails, and does swim and gym at the Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre.
