Mayor's Message Thursday 24 June 2021
One of the great things about living in Ballarat is our shared passion for sport and recreation.
Our Council recognises the importance of helping facilitate recreational activity across all areas of our community and so it was with great pleasure that last Thursday I was able to be at the opening of the first stage of the State Government-assisted $7 million ‘Strengthening Wendouree Community Recreation Precinct Project’. This first stage has seen three new soccer pitches with new turf surfaces, drainage and irrigation works, a synthetic cricket wicket and a coach’s box valued at $1.5 million. The project will continue to develop with BMX and skate facilities, a street soccer zone, a new sports pavilion and community hub, a new Men’s Shed and a ReCranked Youth Shed which will allow the Wendouree Community Recreation Precinct to become a true community hub of healthy activity.
Lockdown has lifted and it's great to see our facilities opening, albeit with capacity and density quotas in place. It’s a time to support your local business and if you haven’t been for a while go for a swim or a work out at the Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre, visit our amazing Art Gallery or Eureka Centre, explore your local library, or discover a new café/restaurant.
While enjoying your activities let’s keep our community safe by doing the right thing. Check in, wear a mask when required, keep your distance and importantly if you don’t feel well, get tested immediately.
As always, this is a changing situation and any restrictions may change with little notice, so please refer to the latest information on our website.
