Mayors Message Thursday 14 October 2021

Update from the Mayor

As we work to align with the State Government’s Roadmap, it is critical that we help all our local businesses get back on their feet and the City of Ballarat will continue to support this in any way possible. Grants via our Community and Business Support Package are still open until 29 October.

Whilst we can see light at the end of the tunnel, we still need to remain focused on protecting ourselves and our community. Continuing to vaccinate if you haven’t already and getting tested should you need to, is essential to enable the transition to a new, more normal life. We have all taken a big hit to our lives over the past eighteen months and it is timely that October is ‘National Mental Health Month’ and I encourage everyone to take care of themselves and look out for others around them.

A recent highlight of my week was participating in a video with some of our youngest community members as part of the upcoming Children’s Week. I was interviewed on everything from ‘How do you become a Mayor?’ to ‘Can you build the world’s biggest playground?’

Keep an eye out for this fun and enlightening video and the Children’s Consultation opportunity on the City of Ballarat’s MySay page with further Children’s Week activities being announced shortly.

In closing and as I mentioned last week, Bridge Mall has entered the exciting Design Development phase that will see members of our community working alongside architects and designers from internationally renowned firm Hassell. If you haven’t seen them already on the City of Ballarat Facebook site, check out the three-part community video series on www.creativeballarat.com.au and enjoy the trip down memory lane.
