New Year's Eve in Ballarat is set to be a blast with the annual fireworks display to take place at 9.30pm on 31 December.

Director of Northern Fireworks Matt Batty, who will be designing and delivering the fireworks, says the display he has planned for Lake Wendouree will be “one of the biggest you’ll see anywhere”.

“There’s half a ton of explosives there, so I wouldn’t downplay how impressive this display will be,” he says.

“There’s not many fireworks displays out there like this.”

While Matt now owns and operates his own business, he learned his trade working for companies that deliver some of the biggest fireworks displays in Australia, including the Brisbane river and the Sydney Harbour Bridge fireworks displays.

The New Year's Eve fireworks is subject to weather conditions.
