Response to overnight Storm Damage
Downed Trees and Storm Damage
Due to the recent storm activity, there as been significant damage to trees and services across the region.
City of Ballarat teams are working to assess tress to make affected areas as safe as possible; prioritising critical incidents and working closely with SES and other emergency service responders. Council’s operations teams are removing trees where they are affecting public health and safety as a priority.
Trees blocking access to roads or properties will be handled by City of Ballarat. Please contact customer service about these trees so we can address them as quickly as possible.
Other trees will continue to be inspected over the weekend by council staff to assess damage and clean up requirements.
Clean up and removal of trees and debris on all other area including parks and footpaths (where not impacting public health and safety) will continue for a number of weeks.
We are encouraging community to avoid high risk areas as more strong winds are forecast. Areas such as Lake Wendouree and Victoria Park should be avoided where possible at this time and please be vigilant if you do need to venture out.
Please also be patient as there will be delays in some services and traffic lights may be out in parts of the city, so be careful and considerate on the roads.
Free Green Waste Disposal
To assist with storm clean up, Green Waste will be free to dispose of at the Transfer Station from Saturday 30 October to Friday 26 November.
Affected Council Services
The Ballarat Botanical Gardens suffered extensive and devastating damage to the gardens and lake precinct overnight. The gardens will be closed until the site can be made safe.
