As part of the Parks and Gardens maintenance program, the City of Ballarat will be closing the Inclusive Play Space on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 October.

This will enable Council’s operations officers and external contractors to undertake routine maintenance works.

City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Des Hudson said the closure was necessary to undertake routine landscaping and maintenance.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the closure. However, the works are necessary to control broadleaf weeds, undertake top dressing works within the play space and to refresh the original garden beds,” he said.

“Given there will be some movement of heavy machinery in and out of the play space, it’s important we close the area to ensure the community is not at risk from a safety perspective.”

The works undertaken during the closure will enhance the experience of visitors and complement the exciting progress of the new Sensory Friendly Play and Stay Zone project that is currently under construction in the north-eastern corner of the play space.

“Scheduled for completion in December, the new play area will provide sensory and imaginative play opportunities with key features being its natural sweeping curves, new play hut and cottage equipment, scented, visual and tactile plantings, and exposed aggregate footpaths. It’s all part of our commitment to delivering a better Ballarat,” Cr Hudson said.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our Parks and Gardens team for the wonderful work they do to ensure we have great public spaces for us all to enjoy now and into the future.”

The City of Ballarat has conducted a letterbox drop to affected schools and disability action groups and signage has been installed at the play space notifying the community of the upcoming closure.
