Two Pine Trees Next to Black Hill School Removed

News Update

The City of Ballarat has today removed two large pine trees located at Binney Reserve next to the Black Hill Primary School, due to an unacceptable risk of the trees falling.

Council staff liaised with the School Principal and staff about the urgent works and were onsite this morning to answer any questions from nearby residents.

The decision to remove the trees is based on a recent arborist report which found a majority of trees in the adjoining pine plantation pose a public risk.

The two trees in question were on a significant lean and posed a serious threat to students on the school oval. Their removal could not be delayed.

Following online consultation with residents in September, planned public consultation on a new land management plan for Binney Reserve will begin next month.

UPDATED: This will include an onsite drop-in session on Thursday 26 November, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

No further trees are planned for removal before consultation on the new land management plan is complete.
