Statement regarding Sunday's march through Ballarat streets

Response attributable to City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Des Hudson
The City of Ballarat was not aware of the march before it took place on Sunday.
This type of behaviour certainly does not reflect Ballarat. We are a welcoming city that embraces multiculturalism and people from all different backgrounds.
We are disappointed at the statement that was being made by this small minority of people. Displaying symbols and slogans about white supremacy is abhorrent and has no place in Ballarat.
We are also disappointed at the group using Eureka Day as their backdrop. That is a total misrepresentation of what the Eureka movement was about, which was a fair go for all.
