Statement on incident at Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre
The Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre will be closed today, 19 April 2021, following the tragic death of a patron who suffered a medical episode while swimming early this morning.
The City of Ballarat extends our deepest sympathies to the family of this patron and the wider BALC community. Staff at the centre are assisting police and paramedics with investigations and council has notified any patrons who were booked to attend the centre today that the centre is currently closed.
City of Ballarat’s first concern is with the family of the deceased and centre staff. Counselling services and other support have been extended to centre staff and patrons of BALC this morning.
- Evan King, Chief Executive Officer City of Ballarat
