NEW RULES FOR CITY OF BALLARAT POOLS
Ballarat Aquatic & Lifestyle Centre (BALC) is reminding parents to remain vigilant when supervising their children around water, with the following new rules (effective 3 Dec 2022) recently being implemented across all City of Ballarat pools:
Children aged under 5 will be required to wear a pink wristband when swimming. The children must be accompanied into the water and within arm’s reach of a parent or guardian over the age of 16 at all times.
Children aged 5-9 will be required to wear a yellow wristband when swimming and must be constantly and actively supervised at all times. Parents and guardians must have clear, constant and direct access to their child at all times.
The updated policy applies for any child under 10 swimming at Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre, Eureka Outdoor Pool, Black Hill Outdoor Pool, Brown Hill Outdoor Pool and Buninyong Outdoor Pool.
ANIMAL SHELTER CALL FOR CHRISTMAS DONATIONS
The Ballarat Animal Shelter is calling on the community to help spread some Christmas cheer to the many animals requiring care heading into the festive season. The annual drive is looking for donations of food, toys, bedding and treats.
Donations will be shared with local not-for-profit agencies which support people in need who have pets to care for, including people who are homeless and fleeing family violence.
Items specifically needed are;
- Wet food for cats and dogs.
- Treats for cats and dogs, especially pigs ears, sardines for cats and peanut butter for dogs.
- Toys for cats and dogs.
- Collars (but not leads).
- Towels, flat sheets and blankets.
Donations can be dropped off at the Ballarat Animal Shelter (Gillingham Place, off Gillies Street, Alfredton) between 9am – 4pm Monday to Friday.
DON’T FORGET TO HAVE YOUR SAY ON RECYCLING AND WASTE COLLECTION
Under the Circular Economy (Waste Reduction and Recycling) Act 2021, all Victorian councils must introduce a food organics and garden organics (FOGO) collection for all households by 2030 and a separate glass recycling collection by 2027.
In line with the changes, the City of Ballarat is now reviewing its kerbside collections and would like to hear your suggestions.
Residents can pick-up a survey at City of Ballarat sites, including Customer Service and at Ballarat Libraries, or can complete the survey online at mysay.ballarat.vic.gov.au.
The Draft Kerbside Transition Plan will go before Council for consideration early next year.
Survey closes 18 December 2022.
