NEW WASTE AND RECYCLING APP
Never forget your bin night again!
The City of Ballarat has launched a Ballarat Waste app to put local waste and recycling information right at your fingertips.
Available free from iPhone and Android app stores, the app empowers residents to access information about their waste and recycling services from the convenience of their smart phone.
With the Ballarat Waste app you can:
-
Access kerbside collection schedules and set bin night reminders
-
Receive notifications of any changes to bin collections, including public holiday services
-
Download a printable PDF of the annual collection calendar for your own address
-
See what can and cannot be placed into recycling, green waste and your general household waste bin
-
Log a missed or damaged bin
-
Access Ballarat Transfer Station’s opening hours, fees and a list of what can be taken to the Transfer Station for free
The Ballarat Waste app will help the City of Ballarat reduce its environmental footprint by transitioning away from resource-intensive printing, posting and greenhouse gas emissions associated with the bulk mail out of the annual waste and recycling collection calendar.
Limited numbers of printed calendars will continue to be available from Customer Service for residents that want to receive a hard copy of the waste and recycling collection calendar.
Download the app via the App Store or on Google Play.
MORGAN STREET SEBASTOPOL
Reconstruction works on Morgan Street are progressing. Asphalting and line-marking were recently carried out, however, significant machinery and trucks will continue to operate in the area for the next three to four weeks (pending weather) and the section of the road will remain closed during this time.
Works to follow include landscaping around the new retention basins, along with fencing, nature strip, footpath and drainage to be finished. Planting will also be carried out throughout September and October.
NOTICE OF ROADWORKS FOR LEARMONTH STREET
The Victorian Government is investing $1.5 million to improve traffic flow and safety on Learmonth Street, Ballarat, between Cuthberts Road and Sturt Street (Remembrance Drive). This project is being delivered by the City of Ballarat.
Improvements will be made to the Learmonth Street and Cuthberts Road intersection and Learmonth Street and Sturt Street intersection.
Works are now underway with speed and lane diversions in place in both directions between Sturt and Cuthbert Streets. Traffic delays are expected, with the south bound lane closed to traffic for periods of time from 4 to 6 September, from 6.30am to 6.30pm.
A full road closure for Learmonth Street will take place from 9 to 13 September, from 6.30pm to 6.30am, for asphalting works, weather permitting.
Motorists, particularly heavy vehicles, are encouraged to seek alternate routes where possible.
The works are expected to be completed in November.

PET OF THE WEEK – TUKTUK
I’m a young black staffy dog, who loves people and all the attention I can get! I’m still learning some manners because I am young. I love playing, fetching the ball and going for walks.
I would make an excellent companion for someone who wants an active companion but also loves cuddles.
To meet me please contact the Ballarat Animal Shelter on 5334 2075 or animalshelter@ballarat.vic.gov.au
