CHRISTMAS DONATION DRIVE – ANIMAL SHELTER

The Ballarat Animal Shelter is a not-for-profit facility and relies on the generosity of an animal-loving Ballarat community. While the City of Ballarat budget provides for a standard diet of Royal Canin dry food for both dogs and cats, and wet food as an additional treat, donations are always extremely welcome.

Leading into Christmas, the Shelter is specifically calling out for donations of pigs ears, peanut butter, creamy treats for cats and dog collars.

Donations can be made at the Animal Shelter, 5A Gillingham Road Alfredton Monday – Friday between 9am and 4pm.

Or alternatively at the Ballarat Town Hall, Monday – Friday between 9am and 5pm or weekends between 10am and 4pm.

FIREWORKS

The New Year’s Eve fireworks, which are being produced by local pyrotechnician Matthew Batty from Northern Fireworks, are scheduled to take place over Lake Wendouree at 9.30pm on Tuesday 31 December, subject to weather conditions.

More details can be found at ballarat.vic.gov.au

BOTANICAL GARDENS CONSERVATORY

The Conservatory at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens is now back open and features the new Summer display, including a Christmas themed display for all to enjoy.

Open 7 days - 9am-4.30pm. Closed Christmas Day.

BRIDGE MALL CHRISTMAS ACTIVATIONS

From Saturday 7 December the Bridge Mall will launch many Christmas festivities, including:

  • Santa at the Bridge Market from 9am – 1pm, 7 December 2024.

  • Pet photos with Santa on 8, 15 and 22 December from 10am – 3pm.

  • Secret Santa giveaways on 14 December with kids entertainment, including face-painting and jumping castle.

Plus so much more. For a full list of activities follow Shopthebridge on Facebook.

DRAIN MAINTENANCE

More than 700 stormwater pits will be inspected and cleaned in Redan and Mount Helen in the lead up to Christmas.

The annual program of works will flush the drainage network in these areas, removing any debris that may lead to future pipe and pit blockages, to prevent any potential localised flooding.

Local contractor ASG Industrial will carry out the extensive pit inspection and cleaning program.

Where pits are located on residential property, residents may be contacted to provide the contractor with access to the pits.

The program also identifies broken pit inserts and surrounds as well as pipe blockages for future works.

The annual program targets different suburbs each year based on need.
