Planning Delegated Committee Meeting | August 2023

At the August Planning Delegated Committee Meeting on Wednesday 9 August Councillors considered three items.  

The Miners Rest Township Plan (C235BALL) - Planning Panels Victoria Recommendations Review

Councillors considered Amendment C235BALL to the Ballarat Planning Scheme and resolved to adopt the amendment as exhibited.  

This follows the community consultation on the proposal to amend the Ballarat Planning Scheme to incorporate elements of the Miners Rest Township Plan in November 2022. For more information see here.  

Bridge Mall Built Form Review  

At the August meeting, Councillors resolved to write to the Minister for Planning to request authorisation to prepare an amendment to the Ballarat Planning Scheme.  

Following the receipt of authorisation from the Minister for Planning, the amendment will be exhibited.  

This follows community consultation that occurred on the Bridge Mall Built Form Framework that was conducted in May 2023. For more information see here.  

8 Mair Street (PLP/2022/508)  

Councillors also considered the current Planning Permit Application relating to 8 Mair Street and 116 - 122 Lydiard Street, Ballarat Central, and the permit applicant’s request to the Minister for Planning to call-in the application for a final decision on the planning application and connecting bridge component.

At the meeting it was resolved that a letter should be written to the Minister for Planning to support the applicant’s request to call-in the application, subject to further consideration of some built form requests. Should the application be called in by the Minister, further community engagement on the application is expected to occur.
