Mayors Message Thursday 9 December 2021
It was with great pleasure that last week I accepted the position as Chair of the Regional Capitals Australia Committee which was formed in 2012 to bring Australia’s 51 regional capital cities together as one unified voice to the Federal Government.
As with Ballarat, in recent times we have seen the huge shift to regional areas across the country and I shall look forward to championing the interests of regional Australia. Particularly around the social and economic development needs that accompany growth.
Christmas is a festive time but for some it is an extremely challenging time. This Christmas please get behind the 3BA Christmas Appeal and help support the Uniting Ballarat, the Salvation Army, Anglicare Ballarat and the St Vincent de Paul Society. No one should go hungry, homeless or without care at any time, let alone at Christmas, so if you can help, please do.
There are also many four-legged, furry friends who do not have a home this Christmas and the City of Ballarat’s Animal Shelter Christmas Appeal is now open to donations.
Donations of food, toys, bedding and treats are welcome and can be dropped off at the Ballarat Animal Shelter.
Local support of the Ballarat Animal Shelter’s annual Christmas Appeal will assist with the health and wellbeing of more than 2000 dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens - and occasional turkey or goat - that the Animal Shelter cares for each year.
This week also sees the opening of a new BMX Pump Track at Wendouree West as part of the City of Ballarat’s ‘Strengthening Wendouree Community Recreation Precinct Project’. This $150,000 project was funded as part of the State Government Victoria’s ‘Local Sports Grants’.
Suitable for all types of equipment including bikes, scooters and skateboards this new facility will be certain to get a good work out this summer.
