Mayor's Message - Thursday 8 September

Car driving next to canola field in Ballarat

Well Spring is here and there are plenty of good things blooming across Ballarat.

The ourballarat spring edition magazine is out, both online at the City of Ballarat website and through the mailbox, with its usual fascination of insights across the City of Ballarat services, local events and projects.

For local basketball fans Melbourne United recently brought their annual training camp to Ballarat passing on invaluable skills and expertise to many budding and seasoned local and regional players of all ages. The culmination of the week being the huge pre-season game against the Brisbane Bullets at Selkirk Stadium on Thursday 8 September.

Spring is a great time for promoting local produce and hospitality and the City of Ballarat has done just that through partnering with Federations Square’s ‘Victoria by Farmer’s Daughters’ to present Ballarat’s thriving eat and drink scene to the wider Melbourne market. Led by Executive Chef Alejandro Saravia I would encourage everyone to jump online and check out some of our very own superb local culinary and wine scene talent that we have been so proud to help promote.

Finally in a hectic week of exciting projects the City of Ballarat is encouraging the community to have its say on plans to deliver a major streetscape upgrade to the Victoria and Albert Streets precinct in Sebastopol.

The $974,000 project will deliver landscaping, including 80 new trees to enhance the area, and will improve parking, pedestrian safety and accessibility. Importantly this project delivers renewed infrastructure to one of Ballarat’s oldest areas and builds on from the Sebastopol Urban Forest project funded by the State Government which has delivered more than 1,300 trees throughout Sebastopol.

The City of Ballarat is delivering the upgrade which is being funded through the State Government’s $5 million Spotlight on Sebastopol program.

The Sebastopol streetscape precinct plans are on display at the Sebastopol Library and on the City of Ballarat’s mySay page. The community is encouraged to have its say via the mySay page until Wednesday 21 September.
