Mayors Message Thursday 27 January 2022

Update from the Mayor

2022 has kicked off with so many initiatives and events that really showcase our city and our community.

A ‘Ballarat Pass’ ticket was launched last week that packages local tourism attractions to encourage family and friends back to Ballarat and is a great initiative to support local attractions.

Work is soon to commence on replacing the old tram tracks around Lake Wendouree, ensuring we preserve not only the history of our tram heritage but also continue to provide such popular tourism assets as we have in our Tram Museum and the tram rides from the Botanic Gardens.

This week we also see the final afternoon of the ‘Summer Sundays’ series in what has been an absolutely resounding music festival. If you have not been, I certainly urge you to get down to the Botanical Gardens this Sunday and enjoy what is the perfect setting for some outstanding musical entertainment.

Round 3 of the Community Impact and Strategic Partnerships Program 2021/2022 opens this coming week and all the details can be found on the City of Ballarat website.

The Community Impact program provides funding of up to $20,000 to support community groups and organisations to run projects, programs, events and other activities. It is also available to buy necessary equipment to promote community outcomes in areas of environmental sustainability, healthy, connected and inclusive communities, promoting community-focused economic outcomes, finding innovative responses to issues and opportunities and strengthening community resilience.

The Strategic Partnerships Program provides funding to support organisations or businesses to run projects that meet strategic objectives in the Council Plan, Health and Wellbeing Plan and other plans and strategies endorsed by Council.

With school back and many businesses short staffed due to COVID isolations, may I encourage people to be understanding and supportive as we all find our way through this current surge.
