Mayors Message Thursday 26 August 2021

Update from the Mayor

Once again, we find ourselves readjusting on the run and trying to get through another lockdown. Each time I think it gets harder not easier, but we know two simple actions can make a huge difference to how our Ballarat community responds to the impact of COVID.

We need to continue social distancing, mask-wearing and hand sanitising to slow transmission and now more than ever we need to get vaccinated to protect our community. By being vaccinated we will help protect our Ballarat health systems from undue pressure and importantly enable them to maintain their daily services and procedures. We all have a role to play and this is the best way we can help ourselves, each other and our local businesses. I encourage everyone to roll up their sleeves this week and get vaccinated if they haven’t already.

On a brighter note, I have just seen a draft copy of the Spring Edition of the OurBallarat magazine. This will be arriving in your letterboxes very soon and what a fantastic insight this publication provides on so many City of Ballarat stories. From the plans for Ballarat’s Link Road to the extraordinary work of our Arborists and their connection to a local group of students, an upcoming cemetery art exhibit through to one business’s coffee recycling initiative and much more make this edition a fascinating read.

OurBallarat is a great seasonal publication for feature stories and I would also encourage everyone during these times to stay connected with the City of Ballarat by also following the Facebook site for current news or by regularly checking the website for all corporate and service information.

As the weather warms and we see our city’s trees and garden flower beds start to come to life it does give us hope for some sunnier days ahead and hopefully we can all be back to enjoying our beautiful surrounds sooner rather than later.
