Mayors Message Thursday 23 December 2021

Update from the Mayor

MAYORS MESSAGE

Happy Christmas everyone!

It has been another long year with pandemic related disruptions, but I want to say I feel very privileged to have been Mayor of our beautiful city through such challenging times.

It makes me proud when I see so many who have been so kind and thoughtful to others, who have been so innovative, resilient and motivated in the face of adversity, and who ultimately have worked so hard to keep our city running. Most importantly I feel we have renewed our sense of community and moving forward let’s continue to value and use that to grow together, as we are all Ballarat, every one of us.

It’s Christmas, it’s summer, the lake’s sparkling, our parks and gardens are looking stunning, cafes and restaurants are bustling with life again and it is a time to really enjoy being with family and friends once again.

Summer Sundays are back with a huge line-up of live music in the Botanic Gardens throughout January, we have a fireworks display on the lake on 16 January, as well as a host of other activities throughout the city, including some major events like the National Road Championships.

Something we often forget is how many ‘free’ recreational opportunities we have in Ballarat to help recover from Christmas lunch. From the Yarrowie to Skipton trails for walking or cycling, to Lakes Burrumbeet and Wendouree for kayaking, boating or fishing, to the parks and gardens for picnics, a round of frisbee golf, dog walks or simply finding a shady spot and reading a book – we really do have a lot to offer. I would encourage everyone to get out and about and rediscover or introduce others to our city.

To the City of Ballarat staff, my fellow Councillors, and the community of Ballarat I wish you all a very happy and safe Christmas.
