Mayor's Message - Thursday 14 April
Mayor’s Message
What a start to the year! After an amazing first quarter of arts and sporting events we find Easter upon us and a further opportunity to get out and enjoy everything our great city has to offer.
The City of Ballarat has continued its commitment to establishing the city as one of Australia’s premier regional sporting destinations announcing this week a funding agreement with the Western United Football Club and the State Government to bring even more world-class sporting action to town.
The agreement includes not only bringing the Western United men’s A-league team to Ballarat, but will also see in late September Ballarat’s Regional Soccer facility host the inaugural Western United Cup, a tournament for junior girls. This provides a tremendous sporting opportunity for junior girls football in regional Victoria to showcase their talent.
Another exciting initiative for our junior community members is the City of Ballarat’s new plan to help make our city a better place for younger residents now and into the future. The Municipal Early Years Plan (MEYP) shows City of Ballarat’s commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of children aged 0-8 in our region.
It is critical we include the needs of our youngest community members, and I would encourage community feedback on the plan’s goals through visiting the City of Ballarat’s ‘MySay’ page online.
The tram track works are under-way and people may have noticed there is some disruption through Wendouree Parade. Can I thank you for your patience, as whilst a little short-term pain there will be significant long time gain.
Easter is a great time to spend with family and friends visiting the many attractions of Ballarat and surrounds, and I would encourage everyone to take the opportunity to get out and enjoy the hospitality of our many fine cafes, restaurants, wine bars and retail businesses.
Stay safe if travelling and enjoy the Easter break.
