Clean ups continue across our city following the recent wild weather, which saw many old and significant trees fallen and damaged. City of Ballarat outdoor staff have done a great job in responding, securing, and tidying up the storm damage.
This week I would like to welcome our four newly appointed Active Women and Girls Program Ambassadors for 2021-2022 all of whom are committed Ballarat community members with a shared passion and interest in women and girls’ sport and active recreation.
Lucy Brennan (Participation Ambassador), Emma Maree Donald (Culture and Environment Ambassador), Kellie Britt (Infrastructure Ambassador) and Kate Weadon (Media Action Ambassador) will help continue the outstanding work of previous ambassadors to help empower, motivate, and inspire girls and women of all ages to get active.
A big thank you to our outgoing 2020-21 ambassadors, Melanie Robertson, Narelle Tolliday, Stephanie Mundy, and Gail Weston for all their hard work.
The 11th day of the 11th month is Remembrance Day, a day where we pay tribute to those that lost their lives in the service of their country and at the 11th minute silence will honour those that gave their lives so that we may live in peace.
Ballarat will never forget the 3,801 service members who lost their lives in overseas conflicts, or those that served and continue to serve our country.
I would encourage everyone at this time of Remembrance to drive down Ballarat’s Avenue of Honour as the longest living memorial in the nation or take a walk along the Prisoner of War Memorial aside the Botanic Gardens and pause a moment to commemorate and think about those that gave so much to our City.
It is great to see life returning to our cafes and restaurants and so many people out enjoying themselves. Let’s continue to support our businesses as they get back on their feet and please be respectful of all staff who are required to check vaccination status to be compliant with the Chief Health Officer’s orders.
Mayor
Cr Daniel Moloney
