Mayor's Message - Friday 9 December
As the weather warms and Christmas approaches there is no doubt that summer has arrived.
Lake Wendouree and surrounding parks and gardens are alive with those enjoying paddle boating, rowing, sailing, fishing, dog walking, running or just having a picnic in the many shady areas. The city seems to have a renewed energy as people enjoy their festive shopping, catching up with friends for a drink and meal or enjoying the many Christmas in Ballarat activities and streetside decorations. It is a great time to begin to wind down the year and reflect on so many things.
One great way to catch up on what is happening around the City of Ballarat is by taking the time to read the summer edition of ourballarat magazine either online or with the copy you will receive in your letterbox.
The summer edition has some fascinating features including how Ballarat is gearing up for the Commonwealth Games. It explains the opportunities, not only in a sporting and spectator capacity, but also in terms of the infrastructure the City of Ballarat is negotiating and advocating for to ensure the games leave a lasting and beneficial legacy across our local transport, housing, visitor economy and sporting assets.
The global broadcast of the Commonwealth Games will mean unprecedented media coverage for Ballarat, showcasing our city during our hosted events of athletics, the marathon, para-athletics, mountain biking and boxing.
Within this summer edition of ourballarat you can also read about our city splash parks, the great line-up of summer events and how you can lend your thoughts to help shape the future of our kerbside waste and recycling collections. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to help the City of Ballarat deliver the kerbside waste and recycling collection service the way you want it.
Enjoy Ballarat’s many summer activities, have a read of ourballarat and let’s all look forward to a welcome Christmas break.
