Mayor’s Message - Friday 30 August 2024
Much of the Bridge Mall redevelopment is now open to pedestrians and shoppers.
The significant project has already led to new investment in the Bridge Mall, with the redevelopment of Norwich Plaza underway and new businesses opening in the mall.
The redevelopment is bringing renewed heart and soul to retail in the centre of Ballarat, encouraging more people to meet and stay in the precinct.
We encourage you to support your favourite businesses and check out the new arrivals in the mall throughout the works.
Upgrades to highly visible corner sites at the bottom of Sturt Street, specifically with the introduction of Timezone and the renewal of Norwich Plaza, play an important role in developing the area.
The City of Ballarat has been working closely with the contractor and traders throughout the construction phase to minimise disruption to traders and shoppers where possible.
As with any major construction project, we know there will be challenges. It has never been more important for people to support traders in the Bridge Mall – to shop local and support local.
New features in Bridge Mall
- A portal giving a view down to the Yarrowee River, connecting people with the water beneath their feet
- Reflections of our First Nation’s history and culture.
- A creative treatment down Coliseum Walk which mimics the path of the Yarrowee River, reminding people of what's below
- Meeting spaces powered with electricity, and space for stalls to improve the market experience
- Smart lighting on building facades
- Plenty of new seating, gathering spaces and plantings
- The street can be easily closed off to traffic for events, markets and performances
- Improved traffic flow through the Grenville and Sturt Street intersection.
