Mayor’s Message - Friday 28 June 2024

Text with The Mayor's Message with an image of Mayor Cr Des Hudson in front of new Art Trail

The city is brightening up, even during the darkest part of winter that we are now experiencing. Seven new art installations by local Ballarat creatives are now dotted around the central Ballarat area.

They all showcase what the artists’ favourite things about Ballarat are and have been designed to encourage us to explore what our own favourite things are about our city.

Each artwork has a QR code for people to scan, let us know your favourite Ballarat things and go into the draw to win a local gift voucher of your choice.

Despite the cold, Ballarat’s CBD is a great place to rug up and wander around, and this is a great excuse to follow the fantastic local art installations.

The artworks across Ballarat showcase everything from the Botanical Gardens to the Art Gallery of Ballarat and even local producers that put Ballarat on the map.

You can wander the full Ballarat Art Trail, while enjoying the city in winter until 22 July.

Visit the corner of Mair Street and Armstrong Street North, to check out Joel Hammonds Ballarat Art Gallery inspired artwork.

Wander down Hop Lane and check out Margie Balazic’s colourful depiction of heritage and wildlife. The other side of Hop Lane shows Amanda Western’s artwork of swans at Lake Wendouree.

Further down Sturt Street the Parent Place building shows Jay Kulbardi’s artwork of red coat soliders, Black Hill and raspberry drops.

The old Unicorn Building showcases Spencer Harrison’s favourite foods from Ballarat, in bright eye catching colour.

And near the Myer loading dock, you’ll see Rach Jackson’s pastel inspired Lake Wendouree artwork.

Finally, on the corner of Sturt and Doveton Streets a very blank wall has been transformed by Scott Leonard to focus on the makers of Ballarat.
