Mayor’s Message - Friday 23 February 2024
Our all-new Ballarat Library is nearing completion, and our dedicated library staff members are beginning the move back to the refurbished facility.
About 75,000 library resources are now being moved from the Ballarat Library at Town Hall to the upgraded Doveton Street library.
The community will be able to access the brand-new Ballarat Library shortly, and it is anticipated that the doors will be opened again before Easter.
The Ballarat Library at Town Hall, the temporary pop-up library installed in November 2022, will close on 12 March to allow the books and other resources to be returned to the main library location.
There will likely be a short period in which there are no library services available in Ballarat Central, however the Sebastopol and Wendouree facilities will be open, and we thank the community for their understanding during this transition period.
It is great that the pop-up at Town Hall has been so well utilised, and we’ve seen about 1,100 visitors each week come through the doors, but we are looking forward to seeing the Ballarat Library complete and operational so that we’re able to offer our community a bigger and better service.
While there will be some disruption to library programs in Ballarat Central in the coming weeks, I’d encourage all community members to make the most of our other fantastic libraries across the municipality.
You can stay informed by following social media and the website of both the City of Ballarat and Ballarat Libraries.
