Mayor’s Message - Friday 16 August 2024
The Spring edition of ourballarat will be hitting your letterbox shortly, and there are plenty of interesting stories to sink your teeth into.
This edition shines a light on some of our inspirational older community and highlights the upcoming month-long Senior’s Festival, as well as a range of other not-to-be-missed activities across Spring.
Celebrating our older community – our residents, aged 60 years and older, have a lot to offer Ballarat, with wisdom and knowledge to share and often more time to contribute to our city in other ways, this group is so worthy of celebration.
Behind the scenes of PopCon – from seniors to teenagers, you can read about how a small group of Ballarat teenagers are organising Ballarat’s only popular culture convention PopCon, which attracts more than 2,000 people each year. It really demonstrates the passion and capability of Ballarat’s young people.
Making Ballarat more accessible – you can also read about how the members of the City of Ballarat Disability Advisory Committee, with an eye to the future, are reflecting on their success and challenges in making Ballarat a more inclusive and accessible place for all.
Commemorating shared history at Eureka – as we celebrate the 170th anniversary of the Eureka Stockade this year, which not only profoundly shaped Ballarat and our region, but arguably also shaped democracy as we know it, there will be a city-wide program of events to commemorate. Stay tuned for more updates.
You’ll also find information about upcoming exhibitions, what’s on in Ballarat, the Bridge Mall redevelopment update and some recent consultation results, all in the spring edition of ourballarat.
You can read ourballarat in hard copy via delivery to your letterbox, by picking up a copy at a City of Ballarat facility, or online at ballarat.vic.gov.au/ourballarat
