Mayor’s Message - Friday 1 December 2023
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Ballarat.
Our spectacular Christmas decorations now adorn Sturt Street, with the city centre abuzz with the twinkle of lights, live music, roving entertainment and beautiful art installations for locals and visitors to enjoy.
A Christmas Art Trail returns this year, taking people on a walking tour of the festive area of Ballarat’s CBD, following a story accompanied by beautiful artworks.
Members of the public can pick up a map from the Ballarat Visitor Information Centre at Town Hall, seven days a week. You can go into the draw to win one of three local Christmas hampers if you complete the trail, answer the five questions and return the map to the Visitor Information Centre be in the running.
The spectacular giant bauble should not be missed, especially at night when the decorations are all lit up!
The topiary reindeer and massive Christmas tree are some of the other great backdrops to have a festive photo with this year.
On Albert Street, next to Parent Place, Santa’s Magical Post Office can be visited, where children can post a letter to Santa.
For another great photo shoot, don’t forget to visit Hop Lane, off Armstrong Street North, which has been festively re-named Candy Cane Lane to match the red and white umbrellas and candy cane artwork.
Visit christmasinballarat.com.au when making plans for the festive season, with plenty of events, markets, decorations and workshops to attend and get you into the Christmas spirit!
And remember that while there are some construction works happening across the CBD at the moment, it is important to note that the Bridge Mall is very much open for business, as are the businesses on Market Street – all ready to help you with your Christmas shopping.
