Lake Lighting Project Enters Planning Permit Stage
Ballarat’s $2.5million Lake Lighting Project has reached a milestone, with a submission now lodged for a planning permit.
The Lake Wendouree and Victoria Park Link Lighting project proposes approximately 220 lights be installed to provide a safely lit environment along the Steve Moneghetti Track for the lake’s 345,000 annual users, as well as the opportunity to attract and host more sporting and community events. The lights will be programmed to turn on and off in line with daylight savings and non-daylight savings time.
Stage 2 of the project involves lighting to 'link' Victoria Park with Lake Wendouree for pedestrians, joggers and the general public.
To provide the community and lake users with a vision of how the proposed lights might look, a demonstration location with two light pole designs was established north of the Olympic Rings along the Steve Moneghetti Track at Lake Wendouree and trialled over Summer with the community invited to give feedback.
Program Director Strategy and Implementation, Amy Boyd thanked the members of the Ballarat community who visited the trial lights and submitted comments via Council’s mySay website.
“Through feedback received from the mySay page and in consultation with Council’s Parks and Gardens team, the Planning Permit seeks to change the colour of the lights from grey to
moss green to better align with other street furniture and existing lighting in the precinct,” she said.
Ms Boyd said the trial lights would remain at the Lake Wendouree site for the duration of the planning permit process. A summary report of all feedback received during consultation has been provided with the planning permit submission and Heritage Victoria application.
Both the Planning Permit and Heritage Victoria permit process include a public notice and advertising period.
The Lake Lighting initiative is a priority project of Council's Lake Wendouree Masterplan and is a joint partnership between Council and the Victorian State Government.
Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison said she looked forward to the planning permit process being completed for the Lake Wendouree and Victoria Park Link Lighting Project.
