It’s starting to look a lot like a Ballarat Christmas

Christmas in Ballarat

From Christmas florals to stars and street art – Christmas in Ballarat is sure to delight residents and visitors of all ages.

Transforming the Ballarat CBD, the 2021 Christmas in Ballarat program will again feature Ballarat’s iconic Christmas decorations including the Giant Shooting Star, Giant Bauble and Floral Reindeer.

New additions to this year’s program will include a Christmas Art Trail, Santa’s Workshop and kids' activities.

Commissioned by the City of Ballarat, the Christmas Art Trail features unique artworks by five local artists – Lucy Frith, Sally Gregory, Caroline Keys, Dillon Naylor and Tegan Crosbie. Residents and visitors are encouraged to follow the trail through the CBD, snap a selfie with Santa, pat the reindeer or stand under the mistletoe.

In the lead-up to Christmas, Ballarat will be bustling with live music every Friday and Saturday, featuring a program of local musicians.

Roving entertainment will also keep Christmas shoppers entertained every Saturday and Sunday, from the Ballarat Centre of Music and the Arts (BCMA) performing Christmas carols to games and dancing elves, while Sovereign Hill will bring a Victorian-era Christmas to the streets every Friday night with songs and storytelling.

City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney said locals and visitors alike would be able to immerse themselves in a uniquely Ballarat experience.

“Come to the CBD to revel in the festive spirit of the decorations and activities for all of December – and stay to enjoy a meal at your favourite foodie spot or indulge in a bit of Christmas retail therapy to help bring the sparkle back for our local retailers,” Cr Moloney said.

Deputy Mayor, Cr Amy Johnson said: “This is a great opportunity to support and empower our creative community through this collaboration. Ballarat people can look forward to lots of music, lights and laughter throughout this month.”
