Help Ballarat become THE PLACE TO BE for young people

City of Ballarat Youth Services is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic young people to join its Youth Council and Sonika committee in 2021.

The Youth Council is made up of young people who are passionate about being involved in their community and representing the views and ideas of youth in the Ballarat area.

Throughout their term, Youth Councillors gain an insight into how Ballarat City Council operates. They also develop their skills in areas such as project management, public speaking, cultural competency, media and communication, and are given unique opportunities to develop their community networks and leadership skills.

“I like the sense of community and the opportunity to make positive change that being on Youth Council gives me. Being a part of the program has also given me confidence, connections and friendships.” Youth Councillor Gabriel Gervasoni said.

Utilising their new skills, Youth Council members lead campaigns, are involved in Council decision- making processes and advocate for young people in the community.

 Sonika Youth Services’ FReeZA committee, is a State Government-funded initiative that gives young people the opportunity to lead the planning and staging of live music and cultural events within their communities.

The program provides participants with hands-on experience and training in the Australian music industry through extensive event management, mentoring and networking opportunities.

“People join Sonika to find a supportive group of likeminded people and discover skills and career paths they may not have thought possible before through traditional education pathways.” SONIKA volunteer Brodie Kamp said.

To apply, applicants need to:

  • be aged between 12 and 25 years;
  • live, work or study in the City of Ballarat;
