Have your say on the future design vision for Ballarat CBD
The City of Ballarat is examining how the Ballarat CBD will undergo urban renewal and is asking the community for its input on how new development can contribute to a thriving and revitalised CBD.
The Urban Design Framework (UDF) and Skyline and Views Study builds on existing strategic work including the Ballarat Strategy 2040 which identifies actions for achieving a greener, vibrant and connected city. It is also informed by the Ballarat CBD Strategy and the Bakery Hill and Bridge Mall Precinct Urban Renewal Plan.
“New investment in the CBD is presenting Ballarat with the critical opportunity to invest in the design quality of its built environment and public realm,” Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney said.
“We anticipate that health, education and professional services will continue to generate employment opportunities in support of the existing retail and hospitality industries. Increased residential offerings will further contribute to a thriving, connected and distinctive CBD,” he said.
“It is crucial that we lay the foundations for good design in our CBD to encourage new development that respects and enhances the heritage and liveability of Ballarat.”
The CBD Urban Design Framework and Skyline and Views Study will help inform principles and guidelines for future development in the CBD while protecting the important heritage and landscape characteristics of Ballarat.
Planning for the future of the Ballarat CBD aims to ensure that the housing and commercial needs of our growing and changing community are met in a way that is sustainable, equitable and in line with community values.
Managing and protecting the City’s skyline and views is also an important and valued element Understanding the interplay between views and vistas will assist in shaping the urban form of the CBD.
“This is an exciting time as our CBD undertakes urban renewal that will continue to position and shape our city as one of Australia’s leading regional centres,” the Mayor said.
