Have your say on the 2023/24 Annual Budget
Ballarat residents are being encouraged to have their say on the priorities of the City of Ballarat’s proposed 2023/24 Annual Budget.
During November, The City of Ballarat is seeking residents’ feedback regarding their priorities within the Council Plan 2021 – 2025.
There are two ways residents can provide feedback — via an online survey or at one of the scheduled drop-in sessions. There will be two drop-in sessions, including one in-person drop-in session and one online drop-in session.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney, said changes to the Local Government Act 2020 had given The City of Ballarat more freedom to determine the way it engages the community regarding the annual budget.
“In the past, we provided the community with four weeks to comment on a draft budget after it was prepared,” he said.
“Now, two years after the adoption of the Council Plan which set out priorities for this term of Council, we are again seeking input from the community on which particular council goals we should focus on during 2023/24 and beyond.”
The City of Ballarat will use the feedback collected through this engagement process to help prioritise competing goals for next year’s budget.
Once the November community consultation period is finished and the draft budget is completed and endorsed by Council, The City of Ballarat will again seek community feedback on the draft during May 2023.
Prior to providing feedback on the 2023/24 Annual Budget, residents may wish to familiarise themselves with the Council Plan 2021 - 2025, the Annual Budget 2022/23 and the Financial Plan 2021 – 2031. These documents provide insight into The City of Ballarat’s existing priorities and projected financial position.
The online survey is open now and will be available until Friday 25 November.
