Emergency Field Exercise at Ballarat Airport on Thursday, 28 November 2024

Ballarat Airport with a number of light planes on the runway

On Thursday the 28 November 2024 commencing at 7pm, a Field exercise will be held at the Ballarat Airport.

The purpose of the exercise is to test the effectiveness of the Ballarat Airport Aerodrome Emergency Plan (BAAEP). The aim of the exercise focusses on the response to a declared emergency involving a passenger aircraft in the vicinity of the Aerodrome. The objectives are to assess the actions of first responders at a multi-agency incident, and the establishment and management of forward multi agency command, control, and coordination structures in responding to an incident.

The exercise will involve deployment of agency personnel and equipment to an identified staging area and the establishment of an Incident Management Team and first response to a simulated aircraft emergency.

The scope of the exercise is limited to the staging area and the buildings in the immediate location. There will be no physical items or constructs related to the scenario placed airside. Resources and vehicles may enter the gate onto the apron area immediately adjacent to the exercise area, park and remain stationary until cleared, then egress the apron area via the egress route identified in the BAAEP. Marshalls and a safety officers will be onsite to ensure safety of all airport users present at the time of the exercise, ensuring aircraft movements are not hampered nor aircraft safety compromised is of primary importance.

Normal airport activity including aircraft movements will not be affected and the aerodrome and airspace will remain open throughout.

Airport tenants are welcome to attend the exercise as observers and/or role players and share their subject matter expertise with attending emergency services.
