The Dragons are coming to Ballarat, streaming live and free on Kayo
This Sunday, 21 November will see the normally calm waters of Lake Wendouree carved up as Dragon Boat Victoria, in partnership with the City of Ballarat, host more than 350 paddlers from across Victoria.
For the first time in Ballarat, the event will be streamed live and free on Kayo Sports.
Dragon boat racing has its cultural origins in ancient China and has evolved into a highly competitive sport right across the globe.
Competitors will compete over a 200-metre course for various awards.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney said Ballarat was excited to have such a sporting spectacle on Lake Wendouree this weekend and looked forward to the many visitors and participants enjoying the local restaurants, cafes and shops during their stay.
“The event is funded through the City of Ballarat’s Tourism Events Grants Program and being able to stream it live through Kayo Sports will provide the perfect opportunity to showcase our iconic Lake Wendouree to a national audience,” he said.
“The event aligns strongly with the City of Ballarat’s Event Strategy, driving economic impact, profiling Ballarat to a national audience and engaging with local suppliers to service the event.
“The surrounding parks and gardens are the perfect arena from which to enjoy this event and we can all look forward to some fierce and entertaining dragon boat racing.”
Kayo Sports Director of Marketing, Kim McConnie, said the event can be streamed live and free on Kayo Sports by downloading the Kayo Sports app or visiting www.kayosports.com.au/freebies and registering an account. Kayo Freebies are free, and no credit card details are required to register and start streaming.
“We are excited to be partnering with Dragon Boat Victoria on this event, which forms part of our ongoing commitment to make selected games and events from all sporting competitions supported by the Federal Government’s women’s, niche and under-represented sports grant available for free on Kayo, where our rights permit,” she said.
Racing is from 9am – 3.30pm and the event will also include entertainment, local traders, music, food trucks and more.
