Crowds will return to the Ballarat Civic Hall this week following the completion of the City of Ballarat-funded capital works upgrade.
Key features of the Stage 2 works included the fitting out of a commercial kitchen, installation of a stage access lift, power upgrade, roofing works and some on stage elements.
The 2021 Federation Business School Commerce Ballarat Business Excellence Awards celebration party will be the first event in the upgraded venue this Thursday.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney said it was very exciting to see the iconic venue re-open and welcome back the community for a diverse and extensive range of live performances, community and business events.
“This is a really important milestone in the history of the Civic Hall,” he said.
“Council committed $2 million for Stage 2 works in the 2019/2020 budget to see these extensive upgrades come to fruition. It now means Civic Hall can cater for a greater variety of bookings.
“The commercial kitchen adds to the appeal of the venue to now host larger gala dinners, wedding receptions and more, while the stage upgrades will provide a great supporting venue to Her Majesty’s already busy annual calendar.”
With capital works planning still in development for Her Majesty’s Theatre, contingent programming is underway, with City of Ballarat venue management to utilise alternative venues such as the Ballarat Civic Hall and other key sites throughout the city during 2022.
Bookings for the Ballarat Civic Hall’s 2022 season are filling fast, with a wide variety of live shows, community events and private functions on the calendar.
Upcoming events include comedy specials from Anh Do, Jimeoin and Ross Noble; theatre shows, in particular “Mono”, with an Australian cast including Max Gillies, Noeline Brown and John Wood; and live music performances from John Williamson, Jon Stevens and Paul Kelly.
