City Oval lights up for local netballers
Four competition light towers with 200 lux LEDs are set to light up City Oval netball court thanks to recent City of Ballarat and State Government funding.
The facility development project has also included the reconstruction of the existing netball court, associated shelter and court fencing.
The project has been made possible through City of Ballarat funding of $383,000, in partnership with a $150,000 contribution from the State Government.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney said that such investments in local grassroots sporting facility development helped ensure the future of Ballarat as a sporting community.
“I think the past six months have really shown just why sport is so important to our city,” he said.
“We have enjoyed an incredible program of national sporting events since just before last Christmas as well as some terrific profile AFL, WNBL and A League fixtures.
“We are a community that continues to produce fine athletes with past and present, Olympic, Commonwealth, National and even Wimbledon representatives.
“Regardless of whether our youth aspire to be future elite athletes, or they just love participating on a social level with friends, the importance of sowing the seeds of interest in sport as well as providing the appropriate facilities is essential to the future health and wellbeing of our community.”
The City Oval Netball Courts new lights and surrounding shelter, court and fencing upgrades will help improve playing surfaces, increase programmable hours, increase participation and provide competition standard lighting.
Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison MP said the project is a great example of different levels of government working together to get the best result for Ballarat.
“We’re delighted to partner with the City of Ballarat to deliver this important project,” she said.
“The more we can encourage residents to stay active and connected, the happier and healthier our community is.”
