City of Ballarat Welcomes Ballarat Link Road Liberal funding promise
The City of Ballarat has welcomed the promise from the Victorian Liberal Party that it will commit $278 million to build the next stages of Ballarat Link Road if it wins government at the State election on 26 November.
Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney said delivery of the next stages of Ballarat Link Road, including the duplication of Dyson Drive, is a long-term priority project for the City of Ballarat, and one of six transformational projects supported through the Ballarat. Now and into the Future 2022 advocacy campaign.
Cr Moloney said he hoped to see this funding commitment for Dyson Drive and Link Road matched by all sides of politics to ensure its timely delivery for local residents and for business.
The promise was made via media release by the Leader of the Opposition Matthew Guy, Shadow Minister for Transport Infrastructure Matthew Bach and Member for Ripon Louise Staley, with support from Liberal candidates Samantha McIntosh (Wendouree) and Paul Tatchell (Eureka).
Cr Moloney said delivery of the Link Road will bring a number of benefits including:
- Improved transport options for the almost 10,000 residents who have made their homes in the Ballarat West Growth Area, including Lucas and new estates in Alfredton, and another 16,000 people who are expected to move into the area over the next five years
- Delivery of Dyson Drive duplication will provide a vital north south transport connection for those residents
- It will reduce congestion and improve safety. In 2016 there were 6,529 vehicle movements each day on Dyson Drive. In 2021 traffic survey showed it had jumped to 10,490 per day
- The next stages of Ballarat Link Road will ultimately provide a vital connection between the Ballarat West Employment Zone and our major highways
