Ballarat residents can now join the Compost Revolution

Do you want to turn your kitchen scraps into compost?

The City of Ballarat has joined forces with Compost Revolution to provide residents with up to 40 per cent off the retail price of compost bins and worm farm products.

Composting provides an additional solution for those wanting to reduce food waste going to landfill by turning their food scraps into rich soil and fertiliser for their home gardens.

Compost Revolution offers a large range of products including worm farms, bokashi and compost bins to help residents start composting at home.

City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Des Hudson said the rebate initiative will enable residents to recycle their food waste into compost and free up space in their general waste bins.

“Composting enables residents to nurture their soil to grow lush green gardens and delicious food,” he said.

“Food waste makes up more than 40 per cent of our household waste, which adds up to an estimated 9,500 tonnes of food that is thrown out by our residents every year and ends up in landfill.

“The City of Ballarat is committed to reducing waste going to landfill and creating a circular economy, that keeps materials in use for as long as possible.”

The initiative will complement the introduction of the City of Ballarat’s new weekly Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) kerbside collection in 2025.
