Ballarat’s biggest celebration for children is just around the corner.
Children’s Week is celebrated annually in October to acknowledge and celebrate the important role children play in our communities. This year, Children’s Week is being held from 22 October to 30 October.
The 2022 theme is "all children have the right to a standard of living that supports their wellbeing and healthy development", drawn from Article 27 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
This year the City of Ballarat is excited to be hosting a free event at the Art Gallery of Ballarat to launch the week.
The event will feature a fantastic array of art and creative activities and performances with hula hoops, giant bubbles and even a unicycle!
This is a great opportunity for families with young children in Ballarat to celebrate the children in their lives, enjoy some fun, free activities and connect with other families in Ballarat.
City of Ballarat Early Years services, including Parent Place and supported playgroups, will also be celebrating children and hosting special activities to celebrate Children’s Week.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney encouraged as many families as possible to attend.
“It’s great to be able to hold such a celebration in person again after two years of celebrating virtually,” Cr Moloney said.
“Our young children are Ballarat’s future leaders and this event promises to be a great day for them.”
Children’s Week 2022 aligns with City of Ballarat’s Council Plan Goal 2 of establishing “a healthy, connected and inclusive community.”
During the development of our Municipal Early Years Strategic Plan 2022-2026, children and families told us that they want opportunities to connect with the City of Ballarat, early years services and each other and this event will be a fun and inclusive opportunity to do that.
