Ballarat Council Meeting – Airport wrap-up
Council votes on Airport Precinct road names
City of Ballarat Councillors voted last night to endorse the proposal to name 11 unnamed roads within the Ballarat Airport Precinct.
The 55 buildings on these roads do not currently have unique building reference numbers. This addressing format could be confusing given the number of buildings and number of unnamed roads. The new road names will provide accurate street addresses for the buildings within the precinct.
The new names were compiled in conjunction with the Ballarat Airport Manager, the Ballarat Airport Stakeholder Reference Group and the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation.
The names also went through two rounds of community consultation late last year and earlier this year.
The naming proposal will be formally lodged with Geographic Names Victoria, who will consider the proposal and, if compliant, gazette the new names. Once gazetted, the City of Ballarat will notify all occupiers and install signage.
Ballarat Airport Runway Extension Variation
City of Ballarat Councillors noted last night to update the value of the Contract from the original price of $5,406,465.87 to $7,037,973.64, to include the temporary road required to construct the runway extension.
This variation is included in the contingency amount allocated to this project, and the project still remains under budget.
Discussions with the State Government on the extension of Liberator Drive to form the new access road to Ballarat Airport are ongoing. The cost of those works would be with the State Government given they form part of the Ballarat West Employment Zone Precinct.
