Wednesday evening at Ballarat City Council’s regular August meeting, Councillors considered two tender items:

Construction of the Ballarat Airport Runway extension

Council resolved to enter a contract for the provision of Ballarat Airport Runway Construction for the total tendered price of $5,406,465.87 (ex GST).

The upgrade of the runway will provide for expansion of airport operations and stimulate significant economic activity for the region.

The  project will extend the primary runway to 1,800 metres in length and increase the strength of the runway to facilitate take-off and landing for aircraft that could not previously be accommodated such as larger firefighting/emergency services aircraft, commercial freight aircraft and attract new aviation businesses to the airport. The contract was awarded to local contractor, Fulton Hogan Industries Pty Ltd.

Tait Street reconstruction

Council has awarded the contract for the reconstruction of Tait Street to Pipecon Pty Ltd for a total tendered price of $2,040,902.56 (ex GST).

The project will see the reconstruction of 880 meters of existing road pavement in Tait Street, from Crown Street to Walker Street.

The reconstruction includes increased road width, with a centre median and turning lanes. The works also comprise a new kerb and channel, an on-road bike lane, pedestrian footpaths, nature strips with landscaping, line-marking and signage.
