Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial 2021 Service Goes Virtual
The Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial Trustees are determined to ensure the sacrifice and suffering of Australia’s 38,000 Prisoners of War are not forgotten during Coronavirus restrictions in 2021.
The 17th annual commemorative service at the Ballarat memorial on February 14 will be moved to a virtual event to protect the public and the health of the remaining POWs who are aged in their nineties and early hundreds.
The City of Ballarat is partnering with the Trustees to film a moving virtual service, to replace what would normally be a large event in Ballarat.
The virtual service includes contributions from the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester, Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney and music from the Royal Australian Navy Band.
The virtual service will be broadcast on the memorial’s website at 11am on Sunday, 14 February.
