Active Ballarat Action Plan adopted

The Active Ballarat Strategy and Action Plan was adopted at Wednesday night’s Ballarat City Council meeting.
This strategy replaces the previous 2014 Recreation Strategy.
This strategy has been developed to align with the current State Government Recreation and Sport Strategy, Active Victoria.
The plan’s key strategic pillars are:
•    Meeting demand
•    Broader and more inclusive participation
•    Additional focus on active recreation
•    Build system resilience and capacity
•    Connect investment in events, high performance and tourism
Overarched by:
•    Innovation and technology
Underpinned by:
•    Working together for shared outcomes
It covers:
•    Structured and unstructured sport
•    Infrastructure and services
•    Identified community needs
•    Opportunities to contribute to the City of Ballarat’s overall liveability, prosperity, sustainability and accountability
The report consider the forecast population growth over the next 20 years and providing extra recreation pursuits across the municipality.
Community consultation also formed a critical component of the strategy, including surveys, community meetings and face to face interviews.
The Active Ballarat Strategy and Action Plan will also support the upgrade to numerous facilities across multiple sports in both structured and unstructured active reaction while being support by a wo-year Recreation Services Core Capital Plan.
