2022 Federation University Road National Championships launched
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney has welcomed the launch of the 2022 Federation University Road National Championships.
The championships were launched in Ballarat today by patrons and local and international cyclists Nick White and Grace Brown.
Cr Moloney said the championships attract hundreds of Australia’s best cyclists and enthusiastic cycling fans to Ballarat and the surrounding region each year.
The five-day program will be held between Wednesday 12 January and Sunday 16 January 2022.
The championships kick off with time trials at Federation University on the Wednesday and Thursday, the criterium under lights in the Ballarat CBD on the Friday and finish with the road races in Buninyong on the Saturday and Sunday.
“Ballarat is a cycling city. We have the roads; we have the racetracks, and we have the trails for every level and every form of cycling,” Cr Moloney said.
“The City of Ballarat recognises not only the value of cycling as a healthy social recreation, but it also recognises the tremendous sporting value and its global popularity across its many forms.
“Ballarat has been working hard at positioning itself as the home of cycling in Australia and our hosting of the RoadNats is part of that events strategy to attract world class athletes to this prestigious national cycling event.
“One of the outstanding qualities of RoadNats is its inclusivity. It provides direct opportunities for not only the aspirers and the weekend warriors, but most importantly it provides the opportunity for those with intellectual impairments, the deaf and para-cycling sports men, women, and youth to showcase their skills and competitiveness to the watching crowds.
“The championships broadcast schedule unveiled today will showcase our beautiful Ballarat to a massive global network through not only Australian TV channels but also an international broadcast partner in the Global Cycling Network which is a fantastic opportunity to highlight both the sport and our city’s beautiful landscape across the world.”
