City of Ballarat CEO Evan King has thanked Soldiers Hill residents for their participation in an online consultation to discuss the future of planned works in their neighborhood.
Residents have:
- asked Council to consider a street-by-street approach to the Soldiers Hill program of works rather than a blanket whole of precinct approach
- Requested an extensive heritage assessment before any works start
- Supported the need for trees to be protected, but do not believe asphalting and line-marking fit the heritage aesthetics of Soldiers Hill.
Mr King said it was pleasing that residents acknowledged the desire by Doveton Crescent residents to have their section of works on the other side of their street completed as a starting point and agreed to ensure Council consults with both landowners and tenants for this to happen.
He stressed that this would in no way set a precedent for any future works in Soldiers Hill.
"We need to draw a line in the sand, sit down with our residents for a conversation around parking and heritage and inform our Council of the best way forward," he said.
Councillors will be fully briefed on the consultation before next week’s Council meeting.
Any variation to the nature and timing of works will require a variation to the funding agreement to be approved by Regional Development Victoria.
