Project overview

The City of Ballarat gratefully acknowledges the support of both the Australian and Victorian governments.

The project will provide a safe connection for bike riders and pedestrians along the Glenelg Highway (Smythes Road, Hertford Street) between Delacombe Town Centre, and Yarrowee River.

Project highlights

Strategic Cycling Corridor Project. 3.6km of shared path or separated bike path along the Glenelg Highway between Delacombe Town Centre and the Yarrowee River, including:

  • Raised Shared User Path Crossings of side streets to make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the road
  • Upgrades to existing crossings, including signalised crossings of Glenelg Highway for greater safety
  • Drainage improvements
  • Intersection modification for safer crossings by both pedestrians and people riding a bike
  • Bus stop modification to improve accessibility
  • Tree replacement
  • Landscaping including tree planting and Water Sensitive Urban Design features areas
  • Seating and refuge nodes for users of the shared path
  • Economic impact - increased active transport opportunity allowing people to ride or walk to shopping centres, schools and kindergartens, medical centres and sporting facilities.

Total Project Investment: $8,836,000

  • Australian Government contribution: $4,418,000
  • Victorian Government contribution: $4,418,000
