From a sell-out music festival to an iconic sporting event and fireworks, there are multiple reasons why you’ll want to spend this summer in Ballarat.

Spilt Milk

After the success of its first Ballarat music festival in 2019, Spilt Milk returns on Saturday 3 December for a sold-out event. More than 30,000 people will enjoy the popular music, food and art festival.

This year’s line-up features international favourites The Wombats and Steve Lacy alongside homegrown heroes Flume, Fisher, G Flip, Genesis Owusu, Mallrat, Spacey Jane, A.GIRL and Peach PRC.

Federation University Road National Championships

After the city celebrates Christmas and welcomes in the new year, Australia’s premier cycling event will be back in Buninyong and Ballarat in early 2023.

The Federation University Road National Championships, nicknamed the RoadNats, returns for its 17th consecutive year in January.

For the first time, the Sturt Street criteriums will open the five-day cycling extravaganza on Friday 6 January before the event returns to Buninyong for the road races on 7-8 January and moves to time trials on 9-10 January.

Summer Sundays and Fireworks

The City of Ballarat’s free concert series Summer Sundays will take to the outdoor stage at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens on 8, 15, 22 and 29 January.

The second event in the Summer Sundays series will finish with the free Fireworks Spectacular taking to the skies above Lake Wendouree on Sunday 15 January at 9.30pm.

Presented by the City of Ballarat, Ballarat’s own Northern Fireworks will deliver the colourful 15-minute display.

Picnic in the Park

On 26 January, get together with family and friends for the Picnic in the Park at Victoria Park.

City of Ballarat Events Manager Sarah Conaughton says the jam-packed calendar of events will entertain residents and visitors to the city throughout summer.

“After the past few years of Covid disruptions, it’s exciting to see events returning bigger and better than ever before to Ballarat," Sarah says.

“This summer is the perfect time to get together with family and friends, celebrate and enjoy our beautiful city.”
