A kindness pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought an unprecedented global crisis to Ballarat’s doorstep. Amid Stage 3 restrictions, the City of Ballarat has continued to deliver essential services to the community, including some of our most vulnerable residents, while also spreading some much-needed joy through our heartwarming Be Kind Ballarat campaign.
Supporting our tourism sector
Never before will Ballarat’s ‘visiting friends and relatives travel market’ be more relevant than when Victoria comes out of restrictions. That’s when our local residents will be encouraged to extend a lifeline to our tourism attractions in a show of solidarity and support.

Creating a central community hub | ourballarat spring 2022
It’s been a meeting place for the Ballarat community for almost 80 years. Now the Eastwood Leisure Complex is poised for an exciting new phase. The City of Ballarat is seeking $13.7 million from the Victorian and Australian Governments to redevelop the ageing Ballarat Central facility as the Eastwood Community Hub. A new hub would help ensure one of our most well-used facilities continues to serve the local community for decades to come.
Turning over a new leaf
Creating compost with your autumn leaves is easy and a win-win. The City of Ballarat is encouraging residents to play their part in our annual autumn leaf clean-up.
Repurposing our green waste | ourballarat autumn 2022
If you have a green waste bin you can dispose of prunings, small branches, flowers, grass, weeds and your autumn leaves. Our green waste is given a second life at a local processing centre, where it is converted into high grade compost for the agricultural sector. The City of Ballarat will soon also consult with residents about adding food waste to our green waste collection.
Older adults get physical
Ballarat’s older residents can head to Mt Pleasant Reserve to try out the new seniors’ exercise equipment.
Ballarat is home to some wonderful natural assets. To make sure these are well looked after now and into the future, a dedicated group of residents is working with the City of Ballarat to shape the regeneration and improvement of biodiversity and habitat links across the east of the city.
