The role  

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Executive Officer to the CEO will need experience leading successful teams, business and political acumen, and the ability to drive process improvement initiatives. 

 

The Executive Officer’s varied and complex work program is directed by the key strategic and operational priorities and imperatives of the CEO.  

 

As the primary point of contact for the CEO, this position is accountable for sound organisational leadership and staff management, coordinating the office of the CEO and managing the executive support and administrative functions in a politically sensitive environment. The Executive Officer is responsible for providing support and advice, analysis and briefings for the CEO, and responsible for leading initiatives on behalf of the CEO which may be specialised, confidential and complex in nature.   

 

The Executive Officer to the CEO works collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team and across the organisation; with particular proximity to projects and initiatives of the CEO’s direct portfolio areas - Advocacy and Lobbying, Integrated Strategic Planning, People and Culture, and Governance and Risk.  

 

This role is a maternity leave opportunity until March 2022. 

  

About you  

You are an engaging, innovative and strategic operator who has experience in, and a strong understanding of executive advisory support and the role and responsibilities of the Chief Executive Officer within a local government setting.  

To be successful you will: 

  • Have an understanding of, and experience in applying high standards of governance, accountability and performance in the public sector.  

  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to apply contemporary and appropriate development approaches and to manage, lead and sustain a high performing team whilst effectively influencing stakeholders at a senior level. 

  • Extensive experience in an executive advisory or chief executive support role dealing with complex confidential service requirements with a keen understanding of the complexities of local government. 

  • Extensive systems knowledge with a wide range of software and collaboration products with the ability to adapt, build and learn new systems and processes. 

  • Demonstrate high level of communication, resilience, interpersonal and public relations skills including the ability to inspire and motivate others, and the capacity to deal with conflict and challenging behaviour. 

  • Demonstrate the capacity to anticipate and identify problems, obstacles and opportunities and apply innovative, creative thinking, including advice from subject experts, to take decisive action to address the issue. 

  • Hold sound experience in financial records and budget management and indicate sound financial literacy.
